Where to Charter a Gulet in Italy: Sicily, Sardinia or the Amalfi Coast?
For a gulet in Italy, start with Sicily and the Aeolian Islands. Eight of the 13 gulets YachtCloud lists in Italy are based there, against two in Sardinia and one in Salerno for the Amalfi Coast [2]. With so few boats, the coast you choose largely decides the boat, so commit early for July and August.
Who this is for: groups set on Italy by gulet who need to choose a coast and know what to check before they enquire. For the Aeolian route day by day, see a 7-day Sicily and Aeolian yacht itinerary.

The Answer in 30 Seconds
Most choice: Sicily and the Aeolian Islands: 8 of YachtCloud's 13 Italian gulets, at Lipari, Palermo, Milazzo and elsewhere on Sicily.
Sardinia: Two gulets, at Porto Cervo and in Sardinia, for North Sardinia and La Maddalena.
Amalfi Coast: One gulet based in Salerno; ask whether a boat based elsewhere can start there.
When to go: May to September on YachtCloud's Italy gulet page, with June and September named as the best months.
What a week costs: €13,010 to 17,400 typical for the whole boat, on each yacht's lowest weekly rate; peak weeks cost more. VAT (22% on 12 of 13 listings) and any APA come on top.

Which Italian coast suits a gulet charter?
Sicily and the Aeolian Islands have the most gulets, Sardinia has two boats far apart in price, and the Amalfi Coast has one. The table sets each coast's listings beside the routes YachtCloud's Italy gulet page names and the main rule to confirm [2][1].
The four groups of Italian gulet bases on YachtCloud
| Coast (bases) | Gulets | Weekly "from" fees | Routes YachtCloud names | Rule to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sicily and the Aeolian Islands (Lipari 3, Palermo 2, Sicily 2, Milazzo 1) | 8 | €9,950 to 22,000; median €13,805 | Aeolian Islands; Palermo and the Egadi Islands | Egadi marine area: charter boats need authorisation [6]; Stromboli 2-mile exclusion zone [8] |
| Sardinia (Porto Cervo 1, Sardinia 1) | 2 | €15,510 and 30,000 | North Sardinia and La Maddalena | La Maddalena park charter permits, 2026 [9] |
| Amalfi Coast (Salerno 1) | 1 | €11,000 | Amalfi Coast and Bay of Naples | Punta Campanella: operator authorisation and anchoring limits [7][11] |
| North-west (Genoa 1, Livorno 1) | 2 | €8,110 and 20,010 | None named | Not covered here |
Sources: bases and routes from YachtCloud's Italy gulet page [2]; fees from each listing's header, 4 November 2026 [1]. Weekly base fee for the whole boat, before VAT and any APA. The coast grouping is ours. DVI Marije's header fee (€17,400) sits above its own range floor (€16,800).
YachtCloud's "typical" band for all 13 is €13,010 to €17,400 a week, from €8,110 [2]. The cost guide defines "typical" as the middle half of priced yachts, using each yacht's lowest weekly rate, and says peak-season weeks run about 35 percent higher [5].
Important to Confirm
Ten of the 13 Italian gulet listings show the same "Explore the Amalfi Coast" route block, starting in Naples, whatever their base [1]. Treat it as a sample. Ask the operator which coast the boat cruises and where it can start.
Sicily and the Aeolian Islands
Sicily and the Aeolian Islands are where most Italian gulets on YachtCloud start: three at Lipari, two at Palermo, one at Milazzo and two listed simply as Sicily [2]. They take 10 to 16 guests, and only Kaptan Yilmaz II, at Lipari, takes more than 12 [1]. The gulet page names two routes here: the Aeolian Islands, and Palermo with the Egadi Islands.
Stromboli. A 2022 Coast Guard ordinance bans navigation within 2 nautical miles of the coast in front of the Sciara del Fuoco, between Punta delle Chiappe and Punta Labronzo [8]. Orders like this change with volcanic activity, so check the current one before you go.
Egadi Islands. Under the marine area's 2010 regulation, charter boats may not enter zone A, and charter services in zones B to D need the managing body's authorisation [6]. Anchoring is banned in zone A, and jet skis and water-skiing are banned in zones A to C [6].

Sardinia and La Maddalena
Sardinia has two gulets on YachtCloud, far apart in price. Victoria, 25 metres and listed as Sardinia, starts at €15,510 a week. Elianora, 39 metres at Porto Cervo, starts at €30,000, with a range of €25,000 to 38,000 that begins below that fee [4]. Both take 12 guests.
La Maddalena's national park approved new, stricter rules for charter and rental boats in July 2026, according to L'Unione Sarda. In parts of the marine area, 75 percent of crewed-charter authorisations go to operators resident in La Maddalena for at least five years, the report says [9]. We couldn't read the park's own documents, so ask whether your gulet holds a park authorisation for the waters you want to visit.
The Amalfi Coast and Capri
The Amalfi Coast has the fewest gulets of the three: one, My Bubu, based in Salerno [2]. YachtCloud's gulet page describes a route from Naples by Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Amalfi to Salerno, and its Amalfi Coast yacht itinerary adds Procida, Ischia and Ravello. No Italian gulet on YachtCloud is based in Naples, so a start there may mean repositioning a boat.
Part of this coast is a marine protected area. Punta Campanella covers the sea off Sorrento, Massa Lubrense, Vico Equense and Positano, among others [7]. Its 2010 regulation bans water-skiing and jet skis throughout, and anchoring in zones A and B. In zone C, anchoring is limited to boats up to 24 metres, from 08:00 to 20:00, away from beaches and seagrass [7]. By listed length, six of the 13 Italian gulets are longer than 24 metres [1]. Charter companies working in the area also need the managing body's authorisation, and its 2024 rules required AIS tracking on board [11].

When is the best time for a gulet charter in Italy?
YachtCloud's Italy gulet page gives the season as May to September and names June and September as the best months, with rates typically 15 to 25 percent below July and August [2]. For peak weeks it suggests booking 6 to 12 months ahead. YachtCloud's all-yacht Italy page gives a longer season, May to October [3], so ask whether a particular gulet takes October dates.
What does a week for 12 cost on each coast?
One 12-guest, six-cabin listing from each main coast shows how the estimates compare. All three add VAT at 22 percent and no APA, so their totals are like for like. This is an illustrative sample of three boats, not a typical price for each coast [4].

None of the three estimates includes food. Across the 13 Italian listings, eight add an APA of 15 to 35 percent [1]. An APA is an advance the captain spends on running costs and reconciles at the end; YachtCloud's gulet cost guide explains how [5]. What it covers varies: DVI Marije's pays for port fees, transfers and drinks, and its meals are priced separately [4].

A three-step check: coast, choice, constraints
This is our own way of narrowing an Italian gulet charter, not an industry standard. Work through it in order.
Coast. Pick Sicily and the Aeolians, Sardinia or the Amalfi Coast from the route you want.
Choice. Count the gulets based there and their sizes: eight in Sicily, two in Sardinia, one at Salerno, and one above 12 guests.
Constraints. List the protected areas on the route and ask the operator what each one allows for the boat's length and toys.
Mistakes to avoid on an Italian gulet charter
Booking late for July and August. With 13 gulets in Italy, a particular size or coast can go early.
Trusting a listing's sample week. Ten listings show the same Amalfi route from Naples, and three show weeks that hop between Sardinia, Naples and Sicily.
Planning Sardinia and Sicily in one week. The Italy gulet page names them as separate routes, and each coast has its own boats.
Assuming you can anchor anywhere. The Egadi and Punta Campanella regulations ban anchoring in their core zones.
Packing the water-skis. Twelve of the 13 Italian listings mention water-skis, but water-skiing is banned throughout Punta Campanella and in zones A to C of the Egadi marine area.
Is a gulet, and YachtCloud, the right fit for Italy?
A gulet suits groups of up to 12, or 16 on one boat, who want a crew and an unhurried week. If you need more choice or a faster boat, YachtCloud's all-yacht Italy page lists 25 yachts, including 5 catamarans, 4 motor sailers and 3 motor yachts, a few of them based outside Italy [3].
YachtCloud suits groups who want to compare Italian gulets on published specifications and starting rates, then request yacht-specific pricing. It acts as a charter intermediary: the owner or operator confirms availability and the final price, and booking runs through a hold and a signed agreement [10].

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we start in Naples and finish in Sicily?
Can we sail from Sardinia to Corsica on a gulet?
Ask before you plan it. Corsica is French. A September 2025 YachtCloud post describes Victoria cruising Sardinia and Corsica, but neither Sardinian gulet listing names Corsica in its route section [4]. Whether a charter can include French waters depends on the yacht and its operator, so get it confirmed in writing.
Do Italian gulets include food?
The listings mostly don't say. Only DVI Marije publishes meal prices: €370 a guest a week for half board and €520 for full board [4]. Eight of the 13 add an APA [1], and the rest say food depends on the yacht and the quotation. Ask how meals are charged before you compare totals.
Is Italy a good choice for a family gulet charter?
It can be, if the boat fits. All 13 Italian gulets on YachtCloud take 8 to 16 guests, and 9 take 12 or more [1]. Ask how the cabins are bedded and whether children count towards the limit. For the boat-type choice, see a gulet or sailing yacht for a family charter.
Sources and methodology
Fleet figures come from a first-party count: every yacht page linked from YachtCloud's Yacht Finder (499 pages, taken from href links only) was read on 4 November 2026 between 03:30 and 03:32 UTC, and the 13 Italian gulet pages were read again at 04:48 UTC with no changes. 13 gulets are based in Italy, the same total and base split the Italy gulet page shows. We grouped the stated bases by coast: Lipari, Milazzo, Palermo and 'Sicily' as Sicily and the Aeolian Islands; Porto Cervo and 'Sardinia' as Sardinia; Salerno as the Amalfi Coast; Genoa and Livorno as the north-west. Fee ranges by coast are each listing's header "from" fee, not YachtCloud's 'typical' band. VAT and APA lines come from each listing's price estimator; meal, fuel, route and water-toy terms were read by hand. Ten listings share a templated route block and a templated toy list. These are published listing terms, not contracts, and the count cannot tell whether a listing is bookable for your dates. Rules come from the Egadi and Punta Campanella regulations (2010, our translation), a 2022 Coast Guard ordinance for Stromboli and a 2026 press report on La Maddalena; each can change, so confirm them for your dates. The example table uses each listing's published figures; the per-guest line is our own division by 12.
